Omesartan is an efficient and selective AT2 antagonist. Omesartan axetil has a strong antihypertensive effect. After oral administration, it is completely de esterified in the small intestine wall and converted into the active metabolite Olmesartan. Olmesartan is a chemically selective non peptide angiotensin II receptor antagonist that selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to vascular smooth muscle AT1 receptors, thereby blocking the vasoconstrictive effect of angiotensin II.
